Ceramics Workshops at the Studio

Two ways to learn wheel-throwing in a small-group setting. Choose between a full three-session workshop, where you follow the entire process from clay to finished piece, or a single evening at the wheel if you simply want to try it or ease back into it.

All sessions start at 17:30. The three-session workshop runs about three and a half hours on Monday, then two-hour sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. The evening runs about three and a half hours.

Things you might ask

Do I need any previous experience?

No. Both formats suit complete beginners as well as anyone who's already spent time at the wheel and wants to keep practising.

Which language are the workshops in?

Sessions are held in German. Individual guidance in English is available on request.

How many pieces will I make in the three-session course?

Around 5 to 6, depending on your pace and on the size of the forms you choose. Each one is fired and finished in a glaze you select yourself.

How many pieces will I make on a single evening?

Around 4 to 5. I trim and glaze them for you afterwards, in a glaze you pick on the night.

When can I pick up my pieces?

About two to three weeks after the final session: the time the kiln needs for the bisque and the glaze firing. The exact day is in your booking summary. Pickup runs during open studio on Friday, 14 to 18, or Wednesday 17 to 20 by arrangement.

What's included in the fee for the three-session course?

Materials, tools, glazes and both firings. You throw, trim and glaze your pieces yourself; everything you need is there.

Materials, tools, glazes and the firings. You throw during the evening; I trim and glaze afterwards, in a glaze you pick on the night.

What should I wear?

Clothes that can get messy. Aprons are provided. Keep fingernails short; long ones make centring difficult.

What if I miss a session?

The three-session course runs as a fixed block. Missed sessions can't be rescheduled or refunded.

When will I receive all details?

About a week before your first session, you'll receive an email with all the information you need; studio address, what to bring, and what to wear.

Can I give a workshop as a gift?

Yes. In the calendar, choose "Not sure about the date yet" and a voucher option opens: digital or printed by post, redeemable for any upcoming session.
