Kaffee

The Kaffee is the anchor of the range. 350 millilitres, wide but not shallow: the shape for filter coffee that keeps its heat, a café creme with room for the crema, a tea that opens up in the cup.

Its proportions are not chosen by eye. Height to width across the whole cup family follows a curve anchored on 1/√3 (0.577), a proportion held since antiquity for its calm feel to the eye. The espressos sit slightly more upright, the cappuccino widens further, and the Kaffee lands in the middle; the rest of the range reads from it.

The studio started with an espresso machine and thirteen and a half grammes of coffee for a single shot. Once that dose settled, the next question was what to drink it from. The Kaffee is the cup that answered.
